I worked for a US-Chinese e-commerce company based in Shenzhen, China. They based their sales solely on website and social media purchases, mainly leveraging social media for exposure and brand awareness.
I was in charge of over 40 social media accounts (1 account for each country we sold to) over Instagram Facebook, TikTok, Pinterest, and YouTube. I was responsible for global launches of products, social media campaigns, IP collaborations, and more. Some of the most notable collaborations we had were with Barbie, Disney, and the Harry Potter franchise, with many more impressive collaborations added to that list.
I helped to build our community and enhance our customer service by decreasing our response time and making a spreadsheet of how to communicate with people politely (which was out of my job scope but I noticed it was being neglected). Yes, I had to make a spreadsheet with suggestions as the cultural and communication differences between the US and China is VAST!
One of the hardest parts about working for this company was keeping up the facade that it was a 100% US company whenever asked. I learned over time that this was a custom in China, but it was difficult to adjust to.
